Our Philosophy
The pursuit of physical culture is a
characteristic of all athletic activity and must involve the total
person. It demands of all participants a total commitment -
emotionally, mentally and physically. This pursuit of physical culture
challenges the participant to do his/her very best, to discipline
him/herself, to be fair minded in competition and to appreciate
excellence in individual and team achievements.
The Pope John XXIII
High School athletic program shall endeavor to develop its participants
mentally and emotionally through a variety of athletic activities that
meet their needs in the varied levels of their development. It shall be
guided by the basic principle that each participant shall be entitled
to equality of opportunity; however, each individual shall be accepted
at his/ her own particular physical, mental and emotional stage of
development.
The participants shall be provided with a variety of techniques and
skills that will enable them to participate in individual and team
activities safely and with competence.
The participants in the athletic program at Pope John XXIII High School
shall be provided with many and varied programs so that they will
appreciate many forms of physical culture that will enhance their
recreational and leisure time activities in later years.
Pope John XXIII High School athletes shall be guided by the basic
Christian ideal of respect for persons and the participants shall be
encouraged and motivated to the highest ethical standards and moral
values in individual and team competition.
