Position Summary

Pope John XXIII Regional High School is seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Varsity / Head Junior Varsity Field Hockey Coach for the fall season. This role is essential in supporting the varsity program while leading the development of the JV team. We are committed to building an extremely competitive, high-skill program, and are looking for a coach who shares that vision and standard.

Qualifications

• Prior field hockey playing and/or coaching experience required

• Collegiate playing or coaching experience strongly preferred

• Strong knowledge of field hockey rules, strategies, and skill development

• Ability to teach and develop athletes at a high level

• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Commitment to fostering a competitive, positive, and team-first environment

Schedule

• In-Season Practices: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM (weekdays)

• Games: Weekdays and occasional weekends (end times may extend beyond practice hours)

• Season: Fall (Mid-August through early November; may conclude earlier depending on team advancement)

Responsibilities

• Serve as Head Coach of the JV team while assisting with the varsity program

• Plan and lead JV practices that align with the varsity program’s systems and philosophy

• Work collaboratively with the varsity coach to ensure continuity in teaching, terminology, and player development

• Support the progression of athletes within the program toward varsity-level play

• Assist with varsity practices, games, and program-wide initiatives as needed

• Supervise student-athletes at all times during practices, games, and transportation

• Promote accountability, discipline, sportsmanship, and a strong team culture

• Maintain clear and professional communication with players, parents, and athletic department staff

• Attend required meetings, including preseason parent meetings and athletic department trainings

• Participate in program and school events (e.g., Senior Night, Parent Night, banquets, open houses, and team functions)
