Former PJ faculty member Fred Rung, 68, passes away

To all alumni, graduate parents, current parents, former and current faculty,
It is with great regret and indeed heartfelt sadness that Pope John High School sends the sad news of the passing of Mr. Fred Rung, former faculty member. Fred passed away at home on March 15. He was 68.
Fred taught at Pope John High School from 1976-85. Fred taught math, primarily algebra and geometry. He was also one of the pioneers in technology at Pope John, as he was the first to teach a class in computers and technology. Fred also moderated the chess club and photography club. Many of his students and teaching colleagues will fondly remember Fred initiating the "Ugly Tie Day". He was a brilliant person, a gentle and humble giant. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his son Fred, of Port Monmouth. His beloved wife Ann passed away within the last year.
Due to the current health care concerns, services will be announced at a later date, under the directions of Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown, NJ. Donations can be made in Fred's name to: American Cancer Society, 7 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.
