Pope John In Memoriam

To All Graduate Parents and Alumni,

So often we hear from graduates, “Did you know that so and so passed away?”  So often we do not know about the death of a former parent, Pope John alum or former faculty member.

Once a month we will post the passing of any former parents, Pope John alumni or former faculty members.  We still have the traditional first Friday Liturgies at Pope John and we also celebrate Liturgies on feast days when those feast days fall on school days.  Starting on the first Friday in March we will post the names of the deceased who have passed away during the previous month.

How do you post the name of a loved one (parent, alum, or faculty member)?  Simply send the name to Austin Braun at austinbraun@popejohn.org

Pope John Mourns The Loss of Peter "Bub" Mooney

It is with sad and heavy hearts to announce that honorary Pope John alumnus, Peter "Bub" Mooney, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2023.  

Peter grew up on a dead-end street behind Pope John HS. He would walk down to Pope John to “practice” with the football teams. Peter was the unofficial mascot for PJ as well as the parking lot attendant at football games. Fans of Pope John looked forward to seeing Peter’s smiling face as he directed traffic at every PJ home game, never without his “police badge”. Peter was a hometown hero to all of the PJ family and a welcome guest at Pope John High School by all.  

Say not in grief that he is no more, but in thanksgiving that he was.

He has gone no further from us than to God, and God is very near.
